Legends Project

Date: Tuesday 01st September 2009

Throughout September 2009, Manchester Camerata, composer Eve Harrison and Little Star Media worked with a group of strudents from Trinity C of E High School to create film and music inspired by the theme of Legends. Drawing on their own ideas and elements of film composer William Alwyn&spiece, Autumn Legend, pupils composed their own music and wrote, directed, and shot their own short film. The new work was given its world premiere before Manchester Camerata’s 9th October 2009 concert, Legends.

The Legend of the One and a 1/2 Thing

“This fabulous film tells the adventurous story of how a dragon, a monkey, and a dinosaur became the One-and-a-Half-Thing. They go on a perilous journey into the unknown…..well, the rainforest anyway.” Ellie Conlon, Class 8

In planning their film, the pupils watched a number of different types of animation. Their imaginative story and the detail they brought to the characters they had created meant that the group very quickly took control over how their story was brought to the big screen. Inspired by Paper Cinema, the young people drew, choreographed, and animated the paper puppets over the course of two days.

The premiere saw the film screened with Camerata musicians performing the score live, harking back to the silent movies of the early cinematic era.
