Manchester Camerata Ensemble – Sheffield
Date: Wednesday 27th October 2010 17:45
Venue: Sheffield City Hall, Sheffield
Manchester Camerata are regular visitors to Sheffield’s International Concert Season and we’re thrilled to return with our wonderful ensemble. The programme includes the poignant and moving Yiddishbukk by Osvaldo Golijov, written in 1992 and based on the remnants of a collection of verses quoted in a letter from Kafka to Milena. The music is written for string quartet and the movements bear the initials of people commemorated in the work.
Specially featured in tonight’s concert are readings from local writers, as part of the Sheffield Off The Shelf Festival of Reading and Writing. The deputy National Storytelling Laureate Shonaleigh Cumbers will be giving a Jewish narrative that complementsGolijov’s musicand a young actor will read an extract from The Diary of Anne Frank.
