Venue: Chester Cathedral, Chester

Wejoin MBNA Chester Music Festival forthe first of threeperformances in the wonderful surroundings of Chester Cathedral. With the chance to see the some of the country&s finest young soloists, graduating from RNCM, this will be an evening of the utmost quality.

Felix Niel will play CPE Bach’s Flute Concerto, while Denys Zhdanov will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 24. Add to that two Mozart symphonies, and the concert promises to be a sure-fire hit.

Symphony No. 26 in Eb will open proceedings and the concert concludes with Symphony no 36 – The ‘Linz’, so called because it was premiered in Linz in 1783 from where Mozart wrote to his father: ‘On Tuesday there will be an academy [concert] in the theatre here and, as I have not a single symphony with me, I am writing a new one at breakneck speed.’ This hurry is reflected in the symphony’s dazzling finale which is instructed to be played “as fast as possible”.
