Mozart, Grieg Elgar In Prestwich

Manchester Camerata’s first visit to the Longfield Suite in Prestwich holds many delights for fans of classical music. At the heart of the concert are two pieces by Mozart written as the composer was approaching adulthood. Both the Violin Concerto no.2 and the Symphony no.29 represent a coming of age musically, and although at times the impetuosity of youth still shines through, both are filled with wonderfully lyrical Mozartian melodies. Grieg’s charming Holberg Suite opens proceedings, a series of 5 movements based on eighteenth century dances, and one of Elgar’s most popular works, the youthful Serenade for Strings completes the programme.
