A celebration of music and words, this programme brings together two composers deeply influenced by the drama of written and spoken word. Benjamin Britten brings Rimbaud’s Les Illuminations to life with an extraordinary world of string sonorities. Mozart’s incredibly intuitive understanding of human emotion and drama is demonstrated in a selection of arias sung by soprano Rebecca Bottone. The programme finishes with Mozart’s intensely emotional 40th symphony. As part of Manchester Literature Festival, poet Michael Symmons Roberts will narrate a new work inspired by this evening’s programme of music.Learning and Participation Performance, 6.30pmStudents perform their new composition inspired by the concert.Encore, 9.30pmPresented in association with Manchester Jazz Festival
