Psycho Live! (Matinee)
Date: Sunday 30th October 2016 16:00
Venue: Albert Hall, Manchester
Watch the cinematic classic as you’ve never seen it before, soundtracked by Manchester Camerata playing Bernard Hermann’s fearsome score live.
Alfred Hitchcock’s powerful, complex psychological thriller, Psycho (1960) is the ‘mother& of all modern horror suspense films. It single-handedly ushered in an era of inferior screen ‘slashers’ with bloodletting and graphic, shocking killings (e.g. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Halloween (1978), Motel Hell (1980), and Brian DePalma’s Dressed to Kill (1980). While this was Hitchcock’s first real horror film, he was mistakenly labelled as a horror film director ever since.
The bleak, monochrome film is made even more effective by Bernard Herrmann’s sparse, but driving, recognisable score, first played under the frantic credits by industry pioneer Saul Bass, and on October 30th Manchester Camerata will bring the infamous soundtrack LIVE to the Albert Hall.
