Romantic Strings In Kendal

Date: Saturday 05th November 2011 19:30

Venue: Kendal Leisure Centre, Kendal

Appropriately for the date, a ‘cracker of a concert’ for lovers of string music and for everyone else! Two of Mendelssohn’s youthful works – a Symphony (one of thirteen Mendelssohn wrote between the ages of 12 and 14) and a Violin Concerto (overshadowed by his ‘other Violin Concerto’) but resurrected by Yehudi Menuhin in the 1950s. These are complimented by a delightful little suite by Sibelius, being given a rare outing, and one of Schubert’s great string quartets arranged for a larger string ensemble by Gustav Mahler. Manchester Camerata’s critically acclaimed Venezuelan leader, Giovanni Guzzo makes his first visit to Kendal.
