Strauss’S Voice: Heroes And Tyrants
Date: Saturday 22nd February 2014 19:30
Venue: The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester
Part of the Strauss&s Voice Festival, we are joined by BBC New Generation artist Ruby Hughes in a selection of Richard Strauss& songs for smaller orchestra, and a late night performance of the composer&s Metamorphosen, a moving elegy for the destruction of German culture brought about by the Second World War. It quotes the funeral march from Beethoven&s Eroica Symphony, perhaps the first expression of heroic aspiration in music. You will also hear Mozart&s Piano Concerto no.25, featuring Liverpool-born Paul Lewis, internationally recognised as one of the finest pianists of his generation.
