The Writing On The Wall

Inspired by Handel’s Belshazzar, our ‘Writing on the Wall& project will work, using music and art, with young people to explore the nature of the wall as a dividing line between contemporary ‘high’ western art culture and youth subculture. The exploration will look at the communication of artistic ideas and whether the respective forms (classical music and graffiti art) have any relevance to each other, and whether engaging with historical works can make a new piece more informed, and indeed give more relevant comment on society today. The project will culminate with a combined live music and art performance as a curtain raiser to the staging of Belshazzar on 23 January 2010.
