Perhaps more than any other living composer, William Basinski may lay claim to having created the definitive eternal elegy of his era. Though the birth of this piece of music is associated with great tragedy, its enduring appeal has been down to the life affirming beauty it elicits from that moment in time. Like any great work of art, there are countless interpretations of the piece and almost everyone is associated with a vivid and powerful emotion.

The concept behind The Disintegration Loops is simple — it’s the sound of an old tape loop playing endlessly as it slowly decays into nothing. The result is both immersive and remarkably emotive, seeming to speak of mortality and the transience of existence, a connotation made all the more powerful by the fact that Basinski finished the record on the morning of September 11, 2001.” – Anonymous

Basinski will perform a solo at The Albert Hall. Come and hear this sound artist perform ‘On Time Out of Time’ a piece of music unlike any other. Two decades of decay informed the tapes behind The Disintegration Loops, but the sounds of On Time Out of Time date from 1.3 billion years ago, when two massive black holes merged and the resultant gravitational waves rippled across our universe.
