Medici.tv takes Camerata to Worldwide audience

Following on from a successful trial in October last year, Manchester Camerata is again working with one of the premier European online broadcasters – Medici.tv – to spread the Camerata concert experience around the world. |
| Manchester Camerata’s concerts on Saturday 15 October 2011 and Friday 18 November 2011 will both be made available to an international audience thanks to the prestigious Medici.tv.
Medici.tv has been described as the world’s unique virtual concert hall, Medici connects classical music lovers in more than 180 countries, broadcasting over 200 classical music events. 12 million videos have been watched with 80 thousand single visitors each month. Manchester Camerata has worked with Medici.tv before. Its concert Pictures from St Petersburg was beamed from the Royal Northern College of Music Concert hall to audiences around the world gaining thousands of new audience members for the orchestra worldwide. |

| Many concerts conducted by Camerata’s new Music Director, Gábor Takács-Nagy staged across Europe have also been regularly featured – most recently his appearances at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. |  |

| A celebration of music and words, this programme brings together two composers deeply influenced by the drama of written and spoken word. Benjamin Britten brings Rimbaud’s Les Illuminations to life with an extraordinary world of string sonorities. Mozart’s incredibly intuitive understanding of human emotion and drama is demonstrated in a selection of arias sung by soprano Rebecca Bottone. The programme finishes with Mozart’s intensely emotional 40th symphony. As part of Manchester Literature Festival, poet Michael Symmons Roberts will narrate a new work inspired by this evening’s programme of music. This concert is a fantastic opportunity for concert goers and viewers on Medici.tv to witness the amazing partnership between Gábor, and Manchester Camerata, led by the orchestra’s passionate young Venezuelan/Italian Leader, Giovanni Guzzo. |

| Our guest director and soloist for this programme, the internationally-renowned Italian cellist and composer Giovanni Sollima, is a performer quite unlike any other, with a rock musician’s energy and directness of communication, and a musicality that sits happily across many genres. Put together around his personality, this programme, blending the traditional and the more modern, features two of his own works, the lyrical Violoncelles Vibrez! for two cello soloists and strings, and LB Files, a mini dramatisation of the life of Luigi Boccherini, a work that embraces jazz, world, contemporary and rock all in one. |
| The collaboration between Manchester Camerata and Medici.tv is part of Camerata’s mission to expand its audience through digital means, for which we have secured an ACE ‘Grants for the Arts’ award. We’re aiming to using the award to extend our interaction with audiences via the Web, providing new and exciting ways for audiences to experience the full breadth of our work on and off the platform. Beyond the partnership with Medici, we plan to increase the choice of streaming video, VOD – Video on Demand, and Teacher resource material on our website, plus explore digital collaborations with artists and musicians. Manchester Camerata is also part of one of 8 successful NESTA R&D Fund projects, in partnership with Sage Gateshead, the Aurora Orchestra, Video Juicer and AFrame. |
