Composer in Residence – Brahim Kerkour
Posted on June 18, 2011
Brahim Kerkour will be working with Manchester Camerata over the next season as its first Composer in Residence, in collaboration with Sound and Music’s Embedded scheme. |
We are delighted to be partnering once again with SAM on the Embedded scheme for our 2011/12 season, and are excited to have selected Brahim Kerkour as our first composer-in-residence, from a very impressive shortlist.
This scheme is a fantastic opportunity for the orchestra to spend some quality time working closely with Brahim throughout the year in a variety of contexts, building a much deeper relationship than a straight forward commission process. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for the audience to gain a closer understanding and appreciation of contemporary composition. |
Embedded has created an opportunity for up to two composers to spend a season ‘in residence’ with the ensemble. During the 2011/12 season the composers will have the opportunity to interact closely with the players and staff, initially observing the group in action before creating work for specific contexts as part of Camerata’s Portraits 2011/12 season with the support of a specially selected mentor. Composers will have the opportunity to participate in the group’s inspiring and innovative outreach projects. |
