We are an orchestra, a collection of artists, thinkers and storytellers. We work with artists from across the spectrum of society and believe passionately in breaking down the barriers to orchestral music and redefining what it means to be an orchestra. We believe that the stories we tell through music are universal and of our time, but only if they reflect society now. The diversification of music taste amongst listeners makes it such an exciting time to be producing music and we want to be at the forefront of this conversation as we believe the broader your taste, the richer your palate.

We are Britain’s most adventurous orchestra. We are experimental. We are different.

Throughout the year we bring you a broad range of exciting shows; from Glastonbury, to the Royal Albert Hall, to Mayfield Depot or your front room. Manchester Camerata is international, continental but forever local. We don’t just play covers, every time we stage a concert you can trust that we will be creating something new that will move the audience. Led by our visionary Music Director, Gábor Takács-Nagy, we collaborate with diverse international artists, from New Order to Martha Argerich to William Basinski to Lewis Capaldi.

Like many over the last decade the arts have been under pressure like never before. However, we understand our responsibility and duty during these tumultuous times to serve our community.

We know that music can make a real impact on health and wellbeing – on dementia, on mental health and on isolation. We lead the sector with creative music-making for people with dementia. Our approach is unique and research-led – it helps people ‘reconnect’ which has a profound impact on people’s quality of life. We aim to be a global leader. We already teach best practice in Taiwan and China with the British Council and have years of experience in research-led therapy in association with the University of Manchester.

We also believe in the power of music in shaping thoughts and attitudes within the community, which is why we invest a lot of our resource in partnering with schools in the region. Music drives personal and social development, deepen engagement in learning and help young people thrive.

We aim to be as inclusive as possible, from our programming to the team behind the scenes, but nowhere is more important to get accessibility right than in our award-winning Camerata in the Community work. We put participant agency at the centre of our work, with the end goal being about empowering the individual and the community, and leaving a lasting legacy of improved wellbeing.
